Gender and Colour Perception

Of course, this American illustration is highly generalised and plays to those gender stereotypes of colour perception and creativity in general (rather ridiculous assumptions). However (aside from being rather humorous, and possibly accurate in some instances) the image has got me wondering as to whether there are any specific studies on colour perception and gender – whether chromosomes play any part whatsoever or if colour association, and its construction through language, is purely cultural.
